Each year Beneath the Sea awards
scholarships to students learning about the
oceans, ocean exploration, marine life,
scuba diving, and the environmental ecology
that will help all of us discover how to
sustain the health of our marine environment
and ourselves. Take a look, does one of

The Jorge Beale Hyperbaric Medicine
Scholarship: Life Support Technologies
group has generously created this
scholarship in memory of a dear friend and
co-worker, Doctor Jorge Beal. A true pioneer
and educator in diving and hyperbaric
medicine, Dr. Beal has been fundamental in
the vitality of Life Support Technologies
and our work supporting the Divers Alert
Network. The winner of this scholarship will
be invited to a Life Support Technologies
forty-hour UHMS approved course at
Westchester Medical Center, including room
and board for this course. Life Support
Technologies will invite this scholarship
winner for a two-week internship with the
Life Support Technologies staff providing
Hyperbaric Medicine to those in need.

The Sea of Tomorrow Scholarship $1,000:
To be awarded to an individual sixteen years
or older to participate in a recognized or
accredited program in the fields of marine
environmental conservation, biology,
ecology, research, or training in a diving
related program necessary for participation
in these field of endeavor.

Ocean Pals /Women Divers Hall of Fame
Scholarship $1,000: To be awarded to a
young person ages 13-18 for the sole purpose
of experiencing the underwater world. This
scholarship to be used towards
certification, advanced training, or any
diving related educational program. (Note:
This scholarship closed.)

Elizabeth K. Tunnell memorial
Fellowship: To be awarded to deserving
students pursuing marine studies and
preserving the ocean (Scholarship
administered by the University of Delaware
at:

Beneath the Sea/Maritime College
Scholarship $1,000: To be awarded on a
basis of need to students enrolled in an
accredited degree program at the State
University of New York Maritime College,
Throg's Neck campus. Candidates must have
completed three semesters at the college,
have a 3.0 Grade Point Average, and given
evidence of extracurricular or community
service. The funds are to be used for
continuing education at the Maritime College
or in the fields of marine sciences, aquatic
preservation, or diving certification.

The Jordan Viders Spirit Of The Sea
Award and Scholarship $1,000:
Established in 2007 in celebration of Jordan
Viders, son of Hillary and Richard Viders,
the Spirit of the Sea award and Scholarship
means to recognize the forces driving young
adults thirty-years and younger who, like
Jordan, follow a career path using
electronics to illuminate and expand our
underwater knowledge.
